What is an environmentally friendly chrome finish on a door handle? Used in the manufacturing process of chrome plated products such as door handles, taps, cabinetware or any product that has a chrome plating is a chemical called Hexavalent Chrome, this chemical is highly pollutant, highly toxic and very damaging to the environment we live in.
A naturally occurring chrome, or environmentally friendly chrome, is called Trivalent Chrome. Trivalent Chrome does not have the damaging attributes that Hexavalent Chrome does; as a result the environment is far better off.
Prior to the enforcement of new EU (European Union) regulations that will enforce the limited use of Hexavalent Chrome. Olivari has developed an environmentally friendly process, through which chromium-plated products are obtained. This process importantly meets both the EU use of chromium regulations (due to be introduced in late 2006), the heightened environmental awareness of public opinion and the market awareness of environmental design. Bio-Chrome® products are suitable for buildings certified for Bio-architecture and for sustainable construction.
Bio Chrome Quality
The lab test carried out on the products coated with BioChrome have shown improved results compared to those obtained with the traditional deposit of hexavalent chrome, thanks to the features peculiar to trivalent chrome being thicker and with a more uniform deposit, thus making the products more resistant to wear and tear and to oxidation.
Identification
All the products coated with Bio-chrome are marked with the logo BIO through a new laser system that makes it indelible. Furthermore, the lot marking and the production date are also obtained with the same system; this information guarantees the traceability of the products, i.e. the products manufacturing process is coded and certified.
Olivari is the first and to-date, (as at date of printing) the only company in the world that has introduced Trivalent chrome as an alternative to the use of Hexavalent Chrome on brass at an industrial level and that has made its related products available to all in the general hardware market.

BioChrome® is available in 2 finishes; BioChrome Bright and BioChrome Satin (otherwise know as polished chrome) and satin chrome. The BioChrome® finish has a darker tone of grey, more similar to steel compared to traditional chrome, which has a grey tone tending to blue.
This darker tone of grey is particularly interesting and attractive as it follows the new trends of architecture and interior design.
